Hunter Mahan and Justin Leonard became the first American pair since 1993 to win 2 points on the opening day, as they helped the American’s to an early lead in the first day of the Ryder Cup.
After losing the first two holes of their first match, Hunter Mahan and his American partner Justin Leonard birdied the next three holes to take control of the first round match against the European pair of Henrik Stenson and Paul Casey. Hunter and Justin played exceptional golf the rest of the way through the match, eventually winning 3 and 2 to give the American team its first point of the tournament. Catch a match recap here.
In the afternoon pairing, Hunter and Justin Leonard defeated Sergio Garcia and Miguel Angel Jiminez 4 and 3 to earn their second point of the match.
