CC: Ryder Cup Day #3...Hurry up Tomorrow

Well, here we go…we finally had our first official function tonight, a meeting with all the captains, vice captains, players, wives, and caddies, kind of outlining the week. Captain Azinger went over what to expect, what to prepare for, who we might be playing with, and just set an overall tenor for the week. I can honestly say that there is just a different feel to this team than the first two that I’ve been on. Maybe I’m more comfortable, but I don’t think that’s it. There is just a lighter feel to this team. There were actually people smiling, having fun, being loose and relaxed and looking forward to PLAYING. I can’t emphasize enough how big that is. I’m not predicting an outcome or saying that this is the key, we are going to win now. I’m just saying that this team will be prepared, they will play loose, and they will have a good time…all pretty good things after the last two teams, who seemed to me were playing trying not to make a mistake.

We are playing our first practice rounds tomorrow. Hunter will be playing with Phil Mickelson, Anthony Kim, and Justin Leonard. A great, great group. Aggressive, confident, and not one of them afraid to throw the occasional jab. Should be a blast. Paul has kind of left it up to the individual groups as to how they should prepare in terms of trying each other’s golf balls, playing alternate shot, best ball matches, etc. within the group. I could easily see us playing some alternate shot
with Anthony Kim. Two young guys who can both get after it and wear guys down with how good they hit the ball. I could easily see us playing with any of the guys in our group, to be honest with you. Hunter gets along well with all of them, and depending on how the next three days go and how everyone is playing, I think our pairing will definitely come from those three guys.

Like I said, not a lot to report tonight, at least not that I can divulge!!! Tomorrow should be great though. Everyone is upbeat, looking forward to getting started, and looking forward to taking care of our teammates…that’s the theme for the week…

Thanks for reading..

John
